The Humans

Addison Marley - Daydreaming and easy-going, Addison drifts through life. She doesn’t have any ambitions but she has many dreams… ones which are full of magic and creatures straight from children’s fantasies. Many see her as foolish, naive and some see her as deluded. But Addison wants more in life, more than science or the cynics can offer.

Sal Hayes - Addison’s boss, Sal attempts to keep Addi in the real world but is more than aware of her lax attitude to things like responsibility or work. Sal has a hot, fiery temper which is hard to quell once fired up. But she deeply loves her husband of seven years and, though they don’t publicly announce it, are currently trying for a baby.

Matt Hayes - Addison’s second boss. Matt is the chef for the Cherry on the Top Baker store and part owner with his wife, Sal. He’s almost the polar opposite of his wife; while she’s well organized, businesslike and always a second away from exploding, Matt keeps a cool head and has a creative mind with a mischievous sense of humour. One of his favourite past times is mocking ‘Little Addi’.

Gary Bell - Addison’s boyfriend. They get on very well but for some time now things have changed into more of a platonic, best friend status. Gary enjoys surfing, listening to Jack Johnson and strumming on his guitar. He’s very chilled and works as a postman, strolling down the streets of Miami under the friendly sun. His one ambition though is to save enough money to buy a cabin down by the lake his father used to take him every summer. Fishing is another love of his and family is above all important to him.

Denise Marley - Addison’s younger sister. Denise works as a model in such important fashion capitals as Milan and London. She’s quite a narcissist, but underneath her vain persona is a very kind hearted person who loves her family above anything.

George Marley - Addison’s quiet, reserved father. He enjoys reading and looking through the family photo album. Not much of a talker, George contemplates in his study most of the time. What he thinks about is debatable… perhaps he reminisces on his younger years when courting the then almost unrecognizable Minori, his now wife. A whirl wind romance in his travels to Japan brought them together but the years and children have cooled the once burning romance. Now he has a secret love of space and can often be found at night-times star gazing for signs of those little green men…

Minori Marley - Addison’s mother. A dominating character who desires her children to be the most successful they possibly can. Denise is her pride and joy for following her dreams only aged 18 and finding herself success. Minori wishes she could say the same for her eldest daughter, Addison, whose only achievement to date is not failing high-school and getting a job delivering packaged cakes from a highly unsuccessful baker store.

The Not-so Human

Elijah - A Vivo who was created by Ardente many years ago. As a vivo, he has powers given by his creator. Elijah is a being of water and can read minds, which easily lends him to despise those very same minds. Humans, who have so many liberties while he has barely any, are a source of much bitterness for him. That is until he meets Addison Marley… the one human he finds impossible to hate.

Ardente - A demi-god who created Elijah. Ardente is a passionate man with partial control over the water element on Earth. Though it is contrary to his race, he has nevertheless long loved his vivo. He created Elijah’s soul and knows how brilliantly it shines, how beautiful he truly is and just how incomparable. Ardente cannot bear to imagine an immortal life without his Elijah and yet his love has gone unrequited for countless centuries… when he discovers Elijah has fallen in love with a human Ardente knows he must abandon his love and face a world without Elijah, but the decision would mean murder.

Dirigen - A demi-god with partial control of light and fire. His mother is the goddess Dawn and as her son he is the youngest of the demi-gods. He is also the most reckless. Being a youthful immortal, he loves to create havoc and use his power without restraint. Vivo’s are, to him as with most demi-gods, a worthless form of life without complexity of feeling or power. When Dirigen visits Ardente he is shocked and disgusted to discover how deeply Ardente feels for Elijah, who Dirigen would most certainly not have bothered to name. The fact that Ardente has allowed Elijah to live quite so long is also unnerving to him and he pressurizes Ardente to free himself of this madness.
